Al's TAFE Certificate IV I.T. (Website Design) Exercises
Semester ONE
- Getting found on the Internet (extract from Bravenet);
- If you're new to having a website on the Internet an important thing to consider is 'Search Engine Optimization' also known as 'SEO'. Optimization of your web pages involves using different methods to increase your ranking in search results. So, for example, if I enter 'Free Guestbook' into a search engine such as Google, I want to ensure that Bravenet comes back as one of the first search results listed by Google. Now Bravenet has a lot working for it to help it rank high in the Search Engines, and it's something that we work on daily, but a small website can do its own optimization to gain a higher rank as well.
- Search Engines are always changing what they scan for page rank. The very best thing you can do is code your pages logically. Make sure you use 'title' attributes on your various HTML tags, link to your own pages within your content, insert metatags and descriptions in your header, and make sure that when you have the chance, you use the words that you've chosen for metatags in your content. There are lots of different strategies to optimize your website. Take a look around some of our SEO articles in the Resources Center. We've created a new service called 'Search Engine Tools' because we want you to be able to rank high in searches.
- Once you've optimized your pages, use the tools to submit your site to the search engines so that they can find you. You can also use our position analyzer to see how high your page ranks. There are other great tools such as the link analyzer and metatag creator. Best of all - we offer the copy paste codes for you to put these tools on your website and provide the same service to your site visitors.
