Al's TAFE Certificate IV I.T. (Website Design) Exercises
Semester ONE
Exercise 1
- Surf the 'net for some websites that contain poor images. Discuss why they are poor, discuss cropping and whether their tones could be improved with adjustment.
- The first picture is from the web. The subject is in the centre of the picture where as the subject should be offset. Ideally, if the picture is divided into 3 columns and 3 rows the focal point of the picture should be in one of the 4 cross-lines.
- Tones can be adjusted using Hue/Saturation (not used in the above pictures).
Exercise 2
- Choose an image that might be considered to be "creative". If a bit stuck there's an image you can use here or here - but they are ©2004 RHanlon. You may NOT use them for any other purpose :-) Save it for web use. Convert it to a sepia toned image. Save that for web use. Compare.
- The first picture is the original, the second has been converted to a sepia toned image.

Exercise 3
- Take that same color image from (2). Select one part of the image. Choose the inverse the selection. Desaturate that part of the image. Manipulate the color of the original selection. Save it for web use.
- The roof of the main house has been enhanced from the original picture of the left above.

Exercise 4
- Pick an image with grass in it and improve the color of the grass.
- The grass in the picture in the middle has been enhanced with Hue & Saturation from the original picture on the left. The picture on the right is my second attempt by only enhancing the greens in the Hue & Saturation.
